Certain to capture the attention of onlookers, the Sydney 36CR will debut at both Docklands Invitational and Geelong Week in January ‘08’. Martin Thompson will be racing onboard the new ‘The Philosophers Club’ with Peter Sorensen during Geelong Week and is happy to show interested people over the boat to discover the important differences between the Sydney 36CR and the standard cruiser racers on the market. | THE PHILOSOPHERS CLUB OFF TO A FLYING START |
Having taken delivery of his Sydney 36CR in December 2007, Peter Sorensen, veteran of 30 years of sailing, showcased his new yacht ‘The Philosophers Club’ in the hotly contested Rolex Cup. In a star studded fleet the Sydney 36CR surprised all competitors when it came off the line amongst some of the hottest 40 footers in the fleet. Proving to be a headache for these yacht and their tacticians, both the Farr 40 and the new 40’ Reichel Pugh Chutzpah ended up having to duck the Sydney 36CR after a mile up the first beat.
The Sydney 36CR spent the next 4 days outsailing these hot IRC optimised boats on rated time finishing an impressive 2nd place on IRC from Limit, who had Gavin Brady on board calling tactics. This was a great result for Alan Brierty who also owns a Sydney 38 by the same name. With this new Sydney 36CR only a week old there is no doubt there will be lot more to get out of this boat. (More)

| NEW 47CR TO DEBUT ON AUSTRALIA DAY |
Is there anything more fitting than selecting an Aussie boat manufacturer to build your new yacht, spending 12 months watching over the local construction of your dream and then having the first race on your new pride and joy on Australia Day? This is certainly Noel Cornish’s coming plan as his stunning new Sydney 47CR looks forward to its first proper hit out since its launch. Presenting both navy blue topsides and rig, the yacht has received many compliments. Moored at D’albora’s, Rushcutters Bay, ‘St Jude’ is berthed directly opposite Paul Clitheroe’s equally impressive Sydney 47CR ‘Balance’.

| RAZOR'S EDGE CROWNED 32OD AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS |
Ray Stone, sailing Razor's Edge won the 2007/08 Sydney 32 One Design National Championship series held at Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. The racing was extremely close, with four points separating the top four boats. Second was Who's Nuts, sailed by Chris Way and his Sydney 38 team, with If placing third.
As with other recent regattas, the racing was extremely close with four boats having won at least one race in the eight heat series. Consistent good performance was the key to success, with Ray scoring 24 points across the eight races. Ray celebrated his 70th birthday this year, proving that this boat can be sailed and raced successfully by a wide range of yachties.

SYDNEY YACHTS' MARTIN 'TACKA' THOMPSON TO TAKE ON 50KT WORLD RECORD |

Sean Langman and Martin Thompson have built a “craft” to try and break the elusive 50 knot world sailing speed record. Following its December ‘07’ build completion, the boat was unveiled just before Christmas to the gasps and head scratching of a crowd of interested spectators. A combination of sailing boat, glider and hydrofoiler, this new craft incorporates some new concepts in supercaviation not previously seen in sailing boat designs. We all wish Martin and Sean the best of luck and the fastest of progress with this exciting and amazing project. (More)

Lou Abraham’s has commented that this most recent Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race would be his last. We certainly hope for him and for sailing in Australia that this is not the case, however if his decision is final, then it is an incredible 44 race history to be proud of.
Lou was one of the first to commit to the Sydney 38 class when it was no more than a vision with potential and there has been no stronger endorsements for the class than having Lou select one of these yachts for himself. His two Sydney 38’s (both of which were going to be his last boat too!) are amongst the most travelled and successful boats in Australia.
For a competitive team that pushed their yacht to its limits, there was no other team that gained as much respect amongst their competitors for their dedication to sportsmanship. Lou, we thank you for choosing Sydney Yachts for your last 12 years of Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races and are delighted that the boats have looked after you and your team so well. (More)

| SYDNEY 36CR EXPORTS |
With the all too common trend of imported yachts arriving in Australia, it is good to see the trend being somewhat counteracted as yet another Sydney 36CR is shipped overseas to Japan to join the country’s growing fleet. Combining its superior handling and performance, with its contemporary cruising comforts, this design is proving popular in both Japan and the US.

| FOURTH 36CR TO JOIN GROWING MELBOURNE FLEET |

Melbourne’s Sydney 36CR fleet looks set to deliver another exciting season of racing with a fourth yacht expected to join in the action. Currently under construction, this new 36CR should hit the water in March ‘08’. Given the strong interest the 36CR receives from Melbourne based consumers, it is likely that this fleet will continue to grow to at least five by the start of the summer season. With a fleet also being planned for Adelaide, the possibility of interstate racing in the major regattas would provide for some exhilarating and competitive sailing.
Built with a higher stability and more lead in the keel than any other widely sailed cruiser racer available on the market, the construction of the Sydney 36CR is specifically suited to the harsh conditions often experienced on waters such as Port Phillips Bay.
